The Amazon Echo is a very popular home gadget and many of our customers have one in their home. Our customers often ask us what the Amazon Echo can do other than the features they have seen on TV. So we have composed a list of useful commands and functions that we have come across so far. We have group them into distinctive tasks. Hope you find them useful. So give it a go! Have fun!

 

Amazon Echo skills, commands and functions

Time

"Alexa, what time is it?"

"Alexa, wake me up at 7:30 am."

"Alexa, set timer for 5 minutes."

"Alexa, how much time is left on my timer?"

“Alexa, what time is New Delhi”

 

Weather

"Alexa, what's the weather like in [your city + state]."

“Alexa, will I need an umbrella today?”

“Alexa, what's the phase of the moon?”

“Alexa, when is autumn?”

 

News

"Alexa, what's new?"

"Alexa, read me the news."

"Alexa who won the Wimbledon this year"

 

Unit conversions

"Alexa, how many [units] are in [units]?" e.g. "Alexa, how many pounds are in a kilo?”

 

Spelling

"Alexa, how to spell…."

or ”Alexa, how do you spell..."

or “Alexa Open Word Nerd”

 

Doing maths

"Alexa, what's 7 plus 9?” or, "Alexa, what's 123 times 321?”

"Alexa, 60 factorial." (Warning: Alexa will list numbers you didn't know existed for about a minute.)

or "Alexa, stop playing in [X] minutes."

"Alexa, pause." or "Alexa, resume."

"Alexa, loop."

Play radio

“Alexa play BBC Radio 4 from Tune in”

"Alexa play In our Time from Tune in" (Play a BBC radio 4 programmes)

"Alexa, what's playing?" (Song or programme information)

"Alexa, next." (Next episode)

"Alexa, stop." or "Alexa, cancel." (To stop the programme)

 

General Knowledge

"Alexa, what's the definition of [word]?" (Get the definition of a word)

"Alexa, can you repeat that?" or "Alexa, can you say that again?"

“Alexa what is the highest mountain in the world”

“Alexa, Ask Wiki Brains to tell me about Gravitational waves” or "Alexa, Wikipedia: [subject]." (Get info from Wikipedia).

Tell Alexa to continue reading a Wikipedia entry: "Alexa, tell me more."
