How to create a secure password and keep it safe? Here are the top 10 tips from our expert Merlin:

  1. Do change your password on a regular basis.
  2. Do ignore internet browsers invitation to save your login details/password if your computer security is compromised so is your password.
  3. Do only trust websites with a lock sign (next to the site address, on the top address bar in your web browser) when paying online.
  4. Do pick passwords that are easy for you to remember, so that you won't have to write down.
  5. Do use long combinations using lowercase, caps and numbers.
  6. Do think of a sentence that is memorable to you alone and use random signs numbers and letters to mix it up!
  7. Don’t use simple easy passwords like words out of a dictionary, even if substituting letters with numbers and symbols. Avoid pet names, names of your children, partners names or dates of birth.
  8. Don’t use words like 12345, abc, abc123, password, qwert (common passwords). If you type in your search provider “common passwords” you can get hints and tips on what not to use.
  9. Don’t use the same passwords on any other websites keep them unique to that website if you forget the password they can be reset easily.
  10. Don't ever disclose your password to anybody, not even relatives or friends.
