Free computer advice for AgeUK customers

main story image

In partnership with AgeUK Suffolk, Lxpert is launching a new initiative through which AgeUK customers will be able to access free tech advice and support at their local charity shop in Ipswich.

Those browsing at the AgeUK shop in Upper Brook Street in Ipswich will have an opportunity to speak to one of the volunteer local IT experts from the Lxpert community about any computer, IT or technology related issues they might have. Appointments can also be pre-booked at the shop.

The initiative is a part of Lxpert’s ongoing CSR programme aimed at driving digital inclusion within the society. Lxpert's Founder and CEO, Kennedy Cheng, says: "Many elderly people feel left out in today's digitalised world, missing out on various technology innovations because they are shy of using something they don’t quite understand."

It is really easy to get confused by the amount of information and offers available on the market and while the older generations recognise certain technology benefits like being able to make video calls on Skype or send and receive emails, they are a bit scared of venturing into an unknown territory by themselves.

"At Lxpert, our friendly local IT experts are here to help others demystify technology and gain confidence and skills they need to make use of technology. It could be about searching for a cooking recipe, joining a knitting discussion board or getting in touch with old friends and family on social network. Anything is possible!" says Kennedy Cheng "We are here to help people get the most from technology and to enrich their lives."

"We are very excited about the opportunity" says Amanda Griffin, Supervisor at Age UK Suffolk’s Ipswich Help Desk.

Lxpert and AgeUK Suffolk are starting the pilot sessions in late July 2015. Please see session time below. Lxpert volunteers will help collect donations for AgeUK during their sessions. AgeUK Norwich has also expressed interest in running similar service at the Norwich branch.
